Our Services

We offer a range of services to meet your individual needs.

Counselling for adolescents and adults on a range of issues including:

  • anxiety
  • pre- and post-natal support
  • parenting
  • depression
  • stress
  • relationship issues
  • school related issues
  • life satisfaction

A psychologist will use a variety of approaches that have been tried and tested scientifically to help an individual discover better ways and new strategies of dealing with issues. These approaches may include:

  • Talking and reflecting
  • Psychoeducation – which is explaining and providing information on how your health is affected by the stress or relationship issues in your life.
  • Problem solving
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) – learning how your thoughts are connected to your emotions and behaviours.
  • Interpersonal therapy (IPT) – learning how to better interact and relate to important people in your life.
  • Mindfulness – learning to live and appreciate the present moment, rather than constantly worrying about what has happened in the past or what is going to happen in the future.
  • Positive psychology interventions – strategies to help you develop better relationships, engage in meaningful activities, and as a result have more positive emotion.
  • Not all approaches are used with all people, as each person has unique issues.
  • During the first session, the psychologist will discuss what approach may be most approriate for your issue, how many sessions you may need and how often.
  • Most people who have individual counselling will attend 3 to 10 sessions in a year, depending on the issue.

Counselling for individuals

A psychologist will use similar approaches in group counselling as they use for individual counselling. However, it can often be beneficial to have group counselling for some issues, at it allows a person to connect with other people so that they don’t feel like they are alone. It is also helpful to hear other people’s stories, and what they have found to be helpful.

Counselling
for groups

Programs are offered for a set number of sessions and are presented as workshops. They provide information about what skills work in different situations and teach these skills to people who may be having difficulties or want to improve in a particular area. Programs are also useful in helping people learn more about an issue and how it can be prevented.

Programs include:

  • Social skills for children
  • Social skills for adolescents
  • Parenting

There may be a waiting list for some programs.
